The Problem

Did you know that lifestyle health complications are increasing with increasing middle income population? Did you know that there are foods that are highly nutritious and medicinal that can naturally reverse many health problems? Did you know that you could eat healthy and live healthy?

Around the year 2000 to 2006 I was overweight by about 28 kgs. I ate lots of meats thinking that meant better life. I took a lot of sugar in soft drinks, tea and juices, and developed many health complications. My blood pressure went high, my sugar level was ever rising and my immunity had shank to bare minimum. The doctors warned me that despite being fat I was so susceptible and could easily succumb to any kind of infection. I took a lot of conventional medicine until I got tired. That’s when I visited a nutritional doctor who prescribed for me how to eat healthy and live healthy.

I lived on a blend of juice made of fruits and vegetables for seven days without eating any cooked food. By the end of the seven days my eating habit had drastically changed. I hated the smell of meat and immediately refrained from meats except occasional fish or chicken. I cut out sugar completely from my diet, and learnt to consume natural foods with known health benefits like Soursop, Chia Seeds, Aloe Vera, Garlic, Okra, and etcetera.

From the time I started consuming these foods especially Soursop, Chia Seeds and Aloe Vera, my health changed for the better. To date I have no pressure, no diabetes, I hardly fall sick and my immunity is back to normal. In short I regained my health.

It’s this experience that inspired me to start processing healthy foods so that many other people could benefit from their health benefits.

The Solution

Asakawalo is processing a range of healthy foods and drinks including: Soursop Juice, Soursop Juice with Chia Seeds, Chia Seeds, Chia Powder and Okra Powder and Peanut Butter. Other products under development include Fortified Peanut Butter, Soursop Leaf Extract to mention but a few.

Each of the above products are 100% organic, highly nutritious and with great health benefits to the consumers. For example Soursop, locally known as ‘Kitaferi’, has been found to be more effective in fighting cancer cells than chemotherapy, boosting the immune system, stabilizing blood sugar, treating bacterial and viral infections, etcetera. While Chia Seeds, categorized among the supper foods, is packed with all the nutrients the body requires for normal functioning. It’s an excellent source of omega-3-fatty acids, rich in proteins and calcium, a powerful anti-oxidant and recommended for managing high blood pressure and diabetes, weight loss, fighting against cancers, and a lot more. With more people becoming aware of the benefits of consuming healthy foods and the government policy of encouraging more consumption of locally produced goods, the “Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU)” campaign, the potential for growth in the production of such foods is huge.

What Makes Us Different

Asakawalo Enterprises is the first company in East, Central and possibly Southern Africa, commercially processing Soursop into fruit juices. Since we started production in January 2019, we have been so overwhelmed by demand for the juices that we are not able to satisfy the market due to short supply of the fruits.

Our market coverage is currently only the Kampala region, with huge potential countrywide and the East African region. We operate in our own premises with guaranteed security of continuity. With our committed and skilled team in the areas of Production, Marketing and Finance, the company is rearing to go. In order to ensure steady supply of raw materials we have so far planted 10 acres of Soursop trees, have acquired about 70 acres of land and plan to plant about 100 acres by December 2020. To be able to track and monitor our performance, all transactions are recorded in the Tally accounting system.
